A second bailey bridge to be erected at Pointe Ronde

first_img Sharing is caring! A second bailey bridge will soon be erected in Point Ronde says Deputy Prime Minister Reginald Austrie. He made that statement during an interview with Vibes Radio News on Monday morning.Mr. Austrie stated that the new Bailey bridge is a medium term solution as this area is a vital link road between the North of the island and the rest of the country. The existing bailey bridge was washed away by heavy rains which resulted in a temporary bypass being opened on Friday.According to Austrie, heavy rains also washed away that bypass on Saturday,  but another bypass has been created, adding that “by yesterday afternoon that road was reopened and traffic could flow between Roseau and Portsmouth.”“The medium term plan is to erect another bailey bridge. The Chinese are constructing a permanent bridge, but that won’t be ready for another six to nine months. So in the meantime we are moving ahead to install another bailey bridge there within the next couple weeks and that would save us the problems of having this temporary bypass washed away whenever it rains,” Austrie stated.Mr. Austrie further noted that all roads around the country have been cleared and are now accessible by motor vehicles.“But traffic is flowing, has been flowing since yesterday afternoon, and all of our road arteries are open. The Kalinago Territory, the landslide has been cleared; the airport road has been opened since yesterday. We have some challenges in the east in the San Sauveur area, but that is being addressed today as we speak,” he noted.“All of the roads all around the country are in fact motorable as we speak,” Mr. Austrie added.
