West Florida Men’s Golf Earns NCAA Super Regional Bid

first_img Blake Olson (Photo by UWF Sports Information) INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The No. 3 West Florida men’s golf team will enter the NCAA postseason as the top seed from the South Region, as the NCAA released the 2011 Division II tournament field on Friday.  UWF, coming off a win at the 2011 Gulf South Conference Championships, will be one of 10 teams from the region and one of 20 total teams at the NCAA South/Southeast Super Regional at Victoria Hills Golf Club in Deland, Fla. on May 2-4.The 54-hole super regional will be hosted by the Sunshine State Conference and the Central Florida Sports Commission.  The top five teams from each super regional site will advance to the NCAA Championships hosted by North Alabama at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at the Shoals in Florence, Ala. on May 17-20.  The top two individuals from each super regional site not on an advancing team will also advance to the NCAA Championships.The NCAA postseason appearance is the 15th in program history and the 15th in a row.  The Argonauts have advanced to the NCAA nationals eight times in school history, highlighted by Division II national championships in 2001 and 2008.  Last year the Argonauts finished tied for eighth at the super regional, failing to earn a spot in the national tournament.The Argonauts are ranked No. 3 in the most recent national coaches’ poll, and they won their 10th GSC championship on April 19.  UWF has won four tournaments during the 2010-11 season, including three this spring.  The lowest the team has finished all season has been fifth place.For information on all UWF Athletics, visit www.GoArgos.com.
