The first meeting took place on January 31, and according to PCHS staff roughly 11 people attended. The meetings will be held on the last Thursday of the month at the PCHS facility on Marydale, in Soldotna. The next one is schedule for February 28. The once a month meetings will focus on the science of opioids and opioid addiction as well as information about the lifesaving medication, Narcan, to help prevent further overdoses. Everyone in attendance will receive a free Narcan kit. The number of deadly opioid overdoses in Alaska has increased again, according to a report released from the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services.
