Thailand Travel Mart kicks into full gear

first_imgThailand’s largest travel and tourism trade fair has been in full force this week, with hundreds of buyers and sellers gathering for three days of business meetings and networking opportunities.Despite the country remaining under martial law, the success of Thailand Travel Mart (TTM+) has sent a strong message to the international community that the country’s current political situation poses no threat to the nation’s tourism sector.Held at the IMPACT Muang Thong Thani Convention and Exhibition Centre in Bangkok, this year’s annual TTM+ has attracted 403 sellers, 314 buyers from 45 countries and more than 200 international media.“There could be no better indicator of confidence in the Thai tourism industry and we are very grateful to all the buyers and travel media from around the world who accepted our invitation to join us at Thailand Travel Mart 2014,” Tourism Authority of Thailand Governor Thawatchai Arunyik said.TTM+ aims to promote tourism and service businesses in Thailand as well as the Greater Mekong Sub-region and this year’s major target markets include Southeast Asia, Eastern Asia, USA, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.Emerging markets such as countries within the Commonwealth of Independent States, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, South American and South Africa are also being focused on.The four major products highlighted this year are eco-tourism, health and wellness, wedding and honeymoon and “experience the Thainess”, for those wanting a true cultural experience.Furthermore, MICE also remains high on the agenda as Thailand remains positive it will reach its target of 987,000 MICE visitors for 2014, a five percent increase from last year’s target, with Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau driving the growth through its new campaign ‘Thailand CONNECT’.
