JOB SUMMARYThe George A. Smathers Libraries seek an innovative andcollaborative candidate to apply for its Associate Dean forResearch and Health Sciences (Associate Dean) position. Thistenure-track position provides vision and leadership for researchservices across the larger UF community, as well as strategicsupport of the multi-faceted mission of UF’s Health ScienceCenter.The Smathers Libraries are key partners in advancing the researchenterprise, leading and supporting initiatives to growinfrastructure and services that enhance UF’s diverse researchportfolio, which includes over $900 million annually in fundedresearch. In strategic collaboration with campus partners, theSmathers Libraries contribute to identifying and advancing researchsupport systems, tools, and services that meet campus needs andpriorities through deep engagement in education, research, equity,and outreach, including a new emphasis on supporting artificialintelligence. The Associate Dean partners with UF’s researchcommunity, representing the Smathers Libraries capabilities,priorities, and values. The Associate Dean communicates the needsof the research community in order to align Smathers Librariesprograms and initiatives. One central way the Smathers Librariesdirectly support research is through the cross-disciplinaryAcademic Research Consulting & Services (ARCS) team, whichprovides data management, reproducibility, open science,bioinformatics, informatics, and more research services throughexpert consultations and direct collaborations withresearchers.The Health Science Center Libraries are central to the HealthScience Center (HSC) campuses in Gainesville and Jacksonville, andunits elsewhere in Florida, combining deep integration withcurriculum, innovative services for researchers, and support forthe clinical practice with a dedication to the improving the healthof our Florida communities. The HSC Libraries focus on providinginclusive, welcoming physical and online spaces for all. Acollaborative team structure brings faculty, staff, and studentemployees together to promote wellness; diversity, equity,inclusion, accessibility, and justice; innovative digital healthprojects; and other initiatives within the HSC and our broadercommunities. The Associate Dean builds partnerships with thestatewide UF Health system, the six Health Science Center colleges,other UF colleges, the Clinical & Translational ScienceInstitute, Research Computing, Informatics Institute, and othercampus entities to advance the education, research, clinical, andcommunity engagement missions of the University of Florida.The Associate Dean works collaboratively with the Dean of theSmathers Libraries and its senior management team to collectivelyprovide strategic leadership and management.
